    This topic (introduction to toxicology) gives an approach to how to simultaneously evaluate and manage the poisoned patient.  Important features of the history and physical exam are emphasized and the six clinical toxidromes are reviewed.  Finally, the audience is invited to “play along” with a variety of common toxicology cases / scenarios and practice what was presented in the first half of the lecture.

    Chest pain does not always mean a STEMI! Other chest pains may mimic STEMIs but are not related to ACS. Review the diagnostic clues, causes and management of NON-STEMI chest pain patients.

A "Vascular Access Devices"

    More and more patients are being transferred by inter-facility transport. Are you aware of all the vascular access devices used? Do you know where 'the line ends'?  If not, this mini session will discuss the most frequently used access devices in patients and tell you what you need to know to keep your patient safe and the line working.   Examples of various types of lines will be available at the session  
       
  B "Stop Sepsis: What you know could save a life"  
    Staria Brickner, RN  
    Join Staria as she discusses a silent killer known as sepsis. You will learn early recognition of signs and symptoms and define the sepsis stages as a continuum. Learn to take appropriate steps to deliver goal directed therapy.  
       
  C "Toxicology ABC's "  
    Dr. Hampton  
    This session gives the EMS provider an opportunity to identify patients in exposure/poisonings that would benefit from a modified approach in the management of the ABCs.  Particular emphasis is made on protecting first responders from becoming patients themselves. This mini presentation is predominantly case-based, allowing attendees to “play along” and determine what to do when presented with a variety of inhalations and exposures.

The MABAS system allows you to pre plan large scale incidents, eliminating the need to find help when you are already overburdened. Join Chiefs Hedrington and Haas in an interactive discussion on how to apply these principles to EMS.

“EF 5 Joplin Tornado: The Event, Our Response, Our Recovery”

In a matter of minutes, the lives of Joplin residents were changed forever with a large F5 tornado. Chiefs Copple and Cranford will present the event, mitigation, and recovery that the providers and residents of Jolpin went through on that fateful day.
